I decided to post a song by a man named Dave Weckl. I was inspired to chose Mr. Weckl after my studio time yesterday where I actually got play drums for a bit. pretty close to two years away after playing everyday for nearly 15 years. It was great to get back.
Dave Weckl is an amazing studio drummer who has always served as inspiration to me. (Along with Stanton Moore, who we’ll get into later). Weckl is a Jazz drummer who started out on the New York “Jazz Fusion Scene” in the early 1980’s. Born and schooled in Missouri, he majored in Jazz at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
He is famous for his early work with Chick Corea Elektric Band from 1985 to 1991. He played with them for 7 years where he built esteem for his work and continued to preform with other groups as well as produce instructional video tapes. he recorded four albums in 1988 and 1989 with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, and in 1990 he headed his first solo date, and Heads up, the record in which this track was born, followed in 1992.
Weckl has preformed with music giants such as Paul Simon, Madonna, George Benson, Michel Camilo and Anthony Jackson. And today still rocks the stage as a Jazz Drummer and studio drummer as well as producer for hire.
