What happened to the “One Piece At A Time Cadillac?”
If you’re anything like me then you watch movies or see the president drive by in a fancy car and ask yourself, “What happens to that car after they’re finished using it?” Ok, so I’ve really never asked that question, but now that I did a tiny bit of research on the Cadillac made for Johnny Cash I posted in my last link, I’ve come to find some very interesting information.
So if you’re just tuning in, The promoters of Johnny cash’s One Piece At A Time song had a Cadillac made for him by a man that owned a auto body parts store and junk yard. Johnny Cash toured the car to promote the album and then it sat in front of his house for some time awaiting a new location where it could be awed from afar by all who cared. So i began to wonder what this new location was. And what I found kind of amused me. As it turns out, everything really has been thought of.
A man by the name of Wayne Lensing, a former race car driver and historic race car restoration man, decided one day that he wanted to collect old vehicles that had Historic Value or Celebrity Popularity. Which, I’m sure you’ve guessed, includes the One Piece At A Time Cadillac. But it doesn’t end there, and it sure as hell doesn’t begin there. This museum has it all, From Elvis Presley’s Personal 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV to the car that in 1972 was dubbed “The Worlds Largest Car.” and thats just scratching the surface. This Heavenly place is the Historic Auto Attractions Museum.
The museum showcases the actual cars and surrounds them with an absurd array of paraphernalia associated with what ever movie or era it comes out of. This museum is quickly encroaching into the number one spot of my MUST SEE!! And don’t think it’s just cars in this glorious place, it also holds miscellaneous artifacts associated with pop icons and cult classic films. like the Bonnie and Clyde Death Hats, the actual ones from the 1967 film.
If you don’t agree yet, Let me just tell you a few things your’e missing out on. I’ll start small:
*Driving suits for Dale Earnhardt and a NASCAR Busch Series suit for his son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
*Craig Breedlove’s rocket engine, used to break the unlimited land speed record and the 600 mph barrier in 1965
*Al Capone’s 1929 Ford beer truck(I’ll bet it has bullet wholes in it)
*A Batmobile replica and the Bat Rocket from Batman Returns, as well as a Batmobile from the original 1960’s The Batman TV series (Not all things can be real, some just have to be fake.)
If this still doesn’t impress you, then check this out, This museum has the one and only vehicle that that our late President John F. Kennedy was shot in. This museum actually uses the Kennedy assassination as its center piece, collecting several artifacts and details related and associated with the assassination, including the flag that was draped over his casket and even the ambulance that took him to the Hospital. But to be fair, it also has the The personal staff cars of Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and Joseph Stalin.
This place is, or definitely needs to be, at the top of your “Must See List” in 2010. Start your year of with stuff that looks better on film. And if you go, I want pictures.
